Yes, we posted it on our Facebook page yesterday, but wanted to share some more of our veraison photos! Veraison is the onset of ripening in the grapes, where the red wine grapes change color from green to the deep purple. The acidity decreases and sugars are also strengthened and concentrated during this phase. Veraison occurs over a period of time, and happens quicker to those that are exposed more to warmth. At this stage, the grapes are about half the size they will be at the time of picking. Once we see veraison in the grapes, we know the hectic harvest season is just around the corner! And harvest means more wonderful wine from Sonoma County!
All photos were taken 8/6/12 at around 5:00 p.m. in the Sonoma Valley!
